Ten Have is a leading publisher in the fields of religion and philosophy, spirituality and meaning. Bereavement support and business spirituality are two further areas of interest. The publishing company was founded in Amsterdam in 1831 by Henricus Höveker. In the early days it concentrated solely on liberal Protestant ideas, but nowadays authors of all faiths and ideologies are welcome, provided their work is of a high quality and demonstrates an open-minded approach to society. The publisher’s list comprises three categories: religion and philosophy (head), spirituality and meaning (heart), bereavement support and business spirituality (hands). The category ‘Religion and philosophy’ appeals primarily to people’s intellect and seeks to involve them in social debates. ‘Spirituality and meaning’ meets people’s quest for wisdom and understanding. This category centres on the experience of religion and the feelings emanating from it. ‘Bereavement support and business spirituality’ lends spirituality a practical dimension, applying it to loss and grief as well as to a management style that is both idealistic and realistic. The publishing company sets out to cooperate with like-minded organisations. A good example of this is so-called Spirituality Month, first organised in 2007 at the initiative of broadcast corporation KRO, Ten Have and daily newspaper Trouw. The company hopes the event will contribute to the growing need for inspiration and meaning in our society. |
